Our mind may be compared to milk and this world to water. Once water is mixed into the milk, this milk cannot be restored to its pure state. However, when this same milk is converted into butter, it no longer faces any danger from water. No matter how much water you put into it, this butter will always keep its pure state. In the same way, our mind in the form of milk is forever being threatened by the world in the form of water.
What we must do is to make our mind like butter, so that instead of being contaminated by the world, it will instead rise above it. Now what is the process of making butter from milk? First of all, milk is made into yogurt by keeping it somewhere quiet where it will not be disturbed. Once the milk is converted into yogurt, this yogurt is churned again and again to make butter out of it. This is the traditional way of making butter from milk, and we too must follow this process to bring our mind to the stage where it will remain unaffected by the world.
First we will have to make our mind practice devotion to God in a quiet place and when it shows signs of calmness, we must churn it with further practice of devotion until it reaches the stage where it will rise above the world and not be contaminated by it. |

Nature Of Material Happiness |

When scratching the skin due to the itching from a rash, it gives momentary relief but later on it gives rise to unbearable burning sensation. The pleasures of the world are exactly the same - initially they feel filled with bliss and happiness, but later the consequences are extremely devastating and painful.

When two brothers take a rope and measure the land and proclaim - the land on this side is mine and on the other side is yours! then God laughs thinking - this entire universe is mine, but these two claim 'this is mine and that is yours!'

Maharishi Ved Vyas is known as the Knowledge dominant 'avatar' (descension) of Shri Krishna. He said that He churned all the scriptures six times and every time came to the same conclusion on the essence of the scriptures. Brahma, the creator, who created this universe out of nothing, said that He too went through all the scriptures three times and found that all the scriptures point to one ultimate and irrefutable fact and teaching. In addressing all His children He said: O Individual Souls! Attach your mind and heart to the lotus feet of the ever loving, generous and gracious Shri Radha Krishna! Beyond this, you do not need to know anything else. |

Ved Vyas Ji was once asked as to what in the Universe was most fortunate. His first response was - Kaliyug. Why? In Satyug the spiritual benefit humans received from doing devotional sadhana for 1,000 years is equivalent to the spiritual benefit from sadhana done for 1 year in Tretayug. The same benefit is realized from doing sadhana for 1 month in Dwaparyug. And in Kaliyug the same spiritual benefit is received from doing sadhana for 1 day. Such is the graciousness, mercy, compassion of God. Knowing that humans would be so attached to the world, He made it so easy for us to reach Him. So, take advantage of this causeless mercy and earn as much as you can. |

They who have a natural desire for God have worked on it in previous lifetimes. If you were not born with a longing for God, you will have to develop it in this life. Ask yourself, “Why do I have such a strong desire for worldly people and material goods?” Your answer will be, “Because they will give me satisfaction and happiness.” So, it is happiness that you really want; it is satisfaction that you desire. Well, you should know that Lord Krishna (God) is the source of unlimited happiness, and He is the one who can give you the ultimate satisfaction. First understand from the innermost core of your mind that Lord Krishna is the only one who is yours. He says in the Gita, “The individual soul is an eternal fraction of Myself.” Because you are the soul, the material world cannot be yours, nor can you be of the world. Moreover, the material world cannot satisfy the hunger of your soul, which is divine by nature. Realize that God alone can fulfill your selfish motive. Then you will accept God to be your only Shelter and Beloved of the soul. Longing for Him will follow automatically. |
